Theatre 310b

Theatre 310b is an ensemble of SIUE Department of Theatre and Dance faculty, alumni and students that creates original dance/theatre performance. Primary collaborators Chuck Harper and Mikey Thomas have presented work in the Czech Republic, France, Germany, NYC, Chicago and Los Angeles.

What? No Characters?

That's right. There are no characters in Whammy! The Seven Secrets to a Sane Self.

Instead there is an ensemble cast that takes the audience on a walk through a dream. This walk into a dream world will amaze and enchant audiences as an introduction for many to experimental theater.

The show, which kicks off SIUE's inaugural Xfest celebration, is somewhat like the original production of Whammy! that was produced on campus last fall. However, some changes have been made to mix it up a bit and make it unique to audiences.

Sarah McKenney, a senior from Mascoutah, Ill., majoring in theater and dance, was in the original show. She said the current version of Whammy!, which is being produced by SIUE's own Theatre 310b and will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. in the Metcalf Theater, has involved quite a bit of fine-tuning, shortening, cutting and adding. The production will last about 75-80 minutes.

"There are no characters; there is no plot, it's an ensemble," said McKenney, who has performed in many shows through the years. "This is the first original production I've done."

There is so much dancing and physicality in the show, McKenney said, that by the end of rehearsal, she just wants to go home and sleep.

There are five students in the production and the show's director, Chuck Harper, associate professor of theater and dance, is part of the ensemble on stage.
